Children at FLCChildren are a precious asset to our worship and spiritual life at First Lutheran. Our teachers work diligently to make Sunday School lessons meaningful and fun for our children. All of our family-oriented activities, such as Picnics in the Park and First Fridays, are planned with children in mind.
Child care is also available during services in our Children’s Center. Children are welcome to stay there throughout the service, but many children choose to attend service with their families until Children’s Time, then go to the Children’s Center. Toddlers as well as older children are welcome; infants are accepted on a space-available basis. Please bring diapering supplies if your child needs them. Child care is also available at special services and other church events throughout the year. The Children's Center is outfitted like a preschool and includes a piano, play kitchen, games, books, toys, marble mazes, etc. This facility is used for Sunday School and child care. Several community groups use it for family-friendly activities like Kids Make Music. For our youngest congregants and their families, a cry room off the Narthex provides a peaceful retreat. Parents can enjoy the service via a window and sound system while their children get some wiggle room. The room features a rocking chair for nursing moms, a changing table with emergency supplies, plus toys and books. The cry room is also a wonderful place for young families to get to know one another! Each year we hold two special family Christmas services. The Santa Lucia Festival includes a brightly costumed musical performance in which the children bring the story of Santa Lucia to life. During the Christmas Eve service, the children act out the story of Jesus' birth and remember the true meaning of Christmas. The Easter season brings other special events, including our annual Easter egg hunt and special Easter breakfast.
