SEASON AFTER PENTECOST

And he replied, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" And looking at those who sat around him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother."
Mark 3:33-35

Fellowship - Families

The word "family" is a defining term for First Lutheran. Whether referring to parents and children or to the family of the church community as a whole, family is fundamental at First. Although we divide into age groups for some activities, we especially enjoy the opportunities we have to gather everyone together to worship, work and play as family.

Families serve together as ushers for worship services and families will often host the coffee hour after Sunday service. Sunday services include a children's sermon where the children pull out and sit on a prayer rug they created one year during Summer Nights. We hold two special family Christmas services: one on Christmas Eve where the children act out the story of Jesus's birth; and the Santa Lucia Festival - a brightly costumed musical performance of the story of Santa Lucia.

Members of all ages come together for fun, food, music and learning at Summer Nights, our "I can't believe it's vacation bible school". We gather for the annual Easter breakfast put on by the high school youth group, and for other meals and fundraisers throughout the year. We gather for parties and celebrations and for our summer series of Picnics in the Park.

Basically, we gather together as family as often as we possibly can - with or without a good reason!!
