For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me . . . . Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of mine, even the least of them, you did it to me.
- Matthew 25:35-40

Community outreach
Jesus calls us to reach out to the needs of our community, both physical and spiritual. First Lutheran supports the community in many ways.
- We make our facility available to community organizations, including
12-step groups, music lessons,
and more.
- We are strong supporters of the Food
Closet, both in collecting donated food (and containers) and providing
volunteers.
- Through the FLCW, donations of food labels and cancelled stamps are
collected for Mosaic (formerly
Bethphage Lutheran Mission) in Axtell, Nebraska that provides care for
persons with developmental disabilities. Bethphage sells the stamps
and gets equipment and other items in exchange for the labels.
- We distribute benevolence funds
to many worthy community organizations.
- We support a sister parish, Rios de Agua Viva
in El Salvador, and have exchanged visits and made mutual friends.
- We provide a concert venue for the best in Bay Area chamber music
groups, including a series by the San Francisco
Early Music Society, Soli Deo
Gloria, and the early-music ensemble Women's Antique Vocal Ensemble.
