April 28 we welcome special guest Marty Dreher from First Congregational Church, partners with us in Immigrant Accompaniment. Marty will share photos, stories and information from her recent trip to Honduras.
May 5 through the end of May: we begin a multi-week bible study on the Psalms, led by clergy and laity: beginning on May 5 with Don Knuth (based on his book 3:16, which actually deals with Psalm 4). Mark Bertelsen, Holly Pearson, Rev. Bob Brohm and Rev. Bernt Hillesland will be involved in future sessions.
The Psalms have been called the “Prayerbook of the Bible” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer). These 150 poems, songs, prayers have a way of expressing and naming the human experience before God, including feelings of anger, pain and joy that seem obscene or – in popular sentiment – not very pious. These prayers provided much of the language for the gospel writers’ portrait of Jesus in all his humanity.
Join us as we learn together how to interpret the psalms, use them in our spiritual life and to understand God and the world.
