Vital to our Community
While we do have activities just for children, we invite them to participate in all aspects of community life such as assisting at worship, fellowship, service projects, and creative endeavors.
Intergenerational
We love intergenerational events: such as bringing children together with the elderly.
For our Neighbors
All children can participate, not just those whose parents are members. Some are around most weekends, others might just show up for an event or two per year.
Our Team
Children events are planned by a leadership team that includes our pastors, dedicated and passionate lay leaders, some of whom work in local schools, and the whole community.
Monthly Events
We try to plan monthly special intergenerational service, fun, musical and other events – see the images above and below for examples. Upcoming events are posted on the front page of our website.
Sunday School
Younger children currently meet downstairs in the Children’s Center and are focused on learning about the Bible and Christian faith. Youth meet upstairs, adding in discussion of issues of faith and life they experience.
Children at Worship
Children are most welcome at all worship services. Opportunities to serve include: lighting candles, carrying the cross, reading scripture, music and drama, distributing communion. On Sundays, we invite children forward for a brief message.
Young children can join parents in the pew, sit at the craft table in the back, or the small room just behind the sanctuary, with a window looking in. It’s natural for children to make noise, and are fine with it!
Children can also head downstairs to our Children’s Center for all or part of the service. The Children’s Center is outfitted like a preschool. Please bring diapering supplies if your child needs them.
About Baptism, Communion, Confirmation ...
These sacraments are for all ages – beginning with Baptism, and then when ready, Holy Communion. Occasional classes are provided for children and parents to better understand the meaning of these sacraments.
Confirmation is a multi-year learning process for teens to go deeper in their learning, culminating with an opportunity to affirm their faith during worship and become voting members of the congregation. Ask a pastor for more information.
