Meet our new Music and Choir Director, Lee Steward

We are excited to welcome Lee Steward as Music and Choir Director at FLC.  Choir rehearses Thursday nights during the school year.

Lee Steward’s background comes with over 20 years of experience in the arts as a professional singer, teacher & coach, and conductor. Originally from Lynchburg, Virginia, he has performed on the greatest stages of the world, with companies such as San Francisco Opera, Opera San José, and Opera Theatre of St. Louis as well as on A&E Television with Stephen Sondheim and Bernadette Peters. Having a deep passion for choral music education, he has served as a conductor of the Boys Choir of Harlem and the San Francisco Girls Chorus.

Lee recently held the Chair of the Performing Arts role at Bentley School, where he oversaw department recruitment, marketing and operations.
He launched two performing arts series programs, providing performance outlets for world-class performers that benefit both artists and regional charities. This year, he completed an Executive MBA at Pepperdine University, with a focus on organizational leadership, finance and strategy in non-profits.

He has lived in Oakland for the past 8 years with his wife and two daughters, ages 9 and 11.  He recently joined Cantabile Youth Singers as the Executive Director in order to support their mission of world-class artistic excellence in addition to his appointment at First Lutheran Church as Music and Choir Director.
