On Rally Day Sunday, September 8 – the “kickoff” to Fall church programs – we will join the ELCA’s call for congregations to engage in service to their community – known as God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday.

In talking to their volunteer coordinator, we have decided to assemble about 50 toiletry kits and 50 snack bags for young children who are served by Life Moves. LifeMoves is a great nonprofit in the Palo Alto area that serves children and families who need shelter, and they welcome these donations from the community.

So plan to stay after 10am worship (we’ll start around 11am). Carol will be purchasing supplies for the kits and bags, Jill will help us decorate cards for kit recipients and Yoichi will be taking charge of purchasing an informal lunch for the  kids and families who stay on to help. This will be in lieu of our usual coffee hour.  (Contributions to First Lutheran are welcome to defray costs.)

This will be a fun way to get to know our fellow parishioners of all ages, and to extend a helping hand to many of the children in our commuunity.
